Welcome to Fall 2022
Dear Students,
I was so delighted to see so many new faces at our New Student Convocation last Friday. It was a tremendous event that allowed us to welcome you to TCC and introduce you to all the resources available here on campus.
It reminded me that while those of us here at the College are quite familiar with the whole experience, new students are not. For many, you are the first in your family to attend college. Others may be generally aware with what to expect, but are still waiting to learn more specifics. Many are nervous. Most of you will experience challenges that make you question your commitment to attend college.
I am here to tell you that you are quite capable of meeting any challenge. Do not question your desire to invest in yourself through education.
Mark Twain once said that the two most important days in your life are the day that you’re born, and the day you find out why. College is about more than earning a degree and getting a job. You should take the time while you’re here at TCC to continue to explore your own personal journey. Find out not just what interests you, but what you’re passionate about, and what drives you. Hopefully you will discover something about yourself that you didn’t know.
When it comes to classes, it’s really quite simple: the secret to success is showing up. But I will also encourage you to ask questions, complete your assignments, get involved in student organizations, intramurals, or other programs. And don’t forget to get rest and eat well!
We’ve all been through a lot these last two years. Take the time to be truly present when you are here. As those students who have come before you know, it’s not just about what you learn in the classroom. Subject matter is important but so is your journey of discovery.
Afterall, at TCC, we don’t just produce graduates; we produce talented people that go on to do great things and give back to their communities.
Have a great semester!
