What a great time for Tallahassee Community College! This month, we presented to our District Board of Trustees a Strategic Plan Year Three update. We have a lot to celebrate, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t receive an email, a phone call or text, or am pulled aside by a member of the community so that they can express their support and pride in our College. Just in the past few months:

• TCC was once again selected to compete for the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, making us one of the top 150 institutions in 2023 vying for the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges.
• Achieving the Dream (ATD) awarded Tallahassee Community College the prestigious Leah Meyer Austin Award, the highest distinction a college in the ATD network can earn, recognizing institutional strength, aligned policies and procedures, a student-focused culture, and notable increases in student outcomes. The award is bestowed to one college annually that employs a holistic approach to reducing equity gaps between student groups and increasing success for all.
• TCC was also recognized as the first Florida college to become an ATD Leader College of Distinction, based on our excellence in student success.
• The Division of Workforce Development was selected as a finalist for the 2022 Bellwether Award established by the Bellwether College Consortium. Thirty community colleges from across the U.S. were named as finalists in three categories, and TCC was one of ten finalists in the Workforce Development category which identifies strategic alliances that promote community and economic development.
• TCC been nominated for the Excelencia in Education 2022 Examples of Excelencia award, which acknowledges programs dedicated to accelerating Latino student success in higher education. Excelencia in Education is the nation’s premier authority on efforts to accelerate Latino student success in higher education, and TCC was nominated for the Advancing a Culture of Care through Strategic Engagement: A Model for Institutional Excellence and Student Success.
• And finally, TCC was named by Gov. Ron DeSantis as one of only five colleges in the state selected to create a career and technical education charter school on its campus because of our track record of preparing our community’s workforce.

These awards are not arbitrary; they are the result of intentional and persistent effort. After years of hard work by our team, planning, implementing, measuring, and fine-tuning, everyone is seeing what we’ve long known – TCC is a college of choice. Our students, our community, deserve the very best we have to offer, and we will continue to deliver.
