Monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia

The National Weather Service is still reporting that it is too early to be certain of a track for Tropical Storm Idalia.

The NWS is expecting that the storm will enter the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, that it will strengthen while moving north-east, and the track will become clearer. The NWS estimates that this will be a strong Category 1 or a weak Category 2 hurricane, with the majority of the winds and storm surge on the coast.

TCC will remain open for normal operations Monday, August 28.

TCC Closed for Tropical Storm Nicole

TCC ALERT! The National Weather Service has reported Tropical Storm Nicole is forecasted to produce strong wind gusts that may be felt across the entire Florida Peninsula and Florida Big Bend on Wednesday and Thursday. Due to the potential for high winds and the impact on transportation in and around the region, TCC will cancel classes and close all campuses, with the exception of the Florida Public Safety Institute, on Thursday, November 10. We will return to normal operations on Monday, November 14, following the Veteran’s Day holiday closure. Go to www.tcc.fl.edu/alerts for more information.

Monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole

TCC is monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole and its potential impacts to the Tallahassee region. College administrators are in close contact with area partner agencies as we work to anticipate any closure needs. Our highest priority is the safety of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on our campuses. In the event that closures become necessary, we will use the TCC Alert system to provide campus closure and reopening information.

Updates on local preparedness can be found at the Leon County emergency information portal: cms.leoncountyfl.gov/ei.

College Operations Update

As of this morning, the National Weather Service Tallahassee reports eastward shifts of Hurricane Ian in the last 12-24 hours have meant a continued lowering of potential impacts to our area. TCC will remain open for classes and operations at all locations. Faculty will continue to work with students who have extenuating circumstances on an individual basis.

As the storm makes landfall along the Southwest coast of Florida, we send our support to the Florida College System institutions that are being impacted. TCC will be serving as a staging site for emergency preparations and equipment that will be sent south after the storm passes. Please avoid any areas where these preparations are being made, and continue to monitor official local weather sources for the latest updates.

At this time, we do not anticipate any further announcements will need to be made regarding College operations.

Hurricane Ian Tracking East

The latest update from the National Weather Service Tallahassee shows Hurricane Ian tracking east with a moderate risk to the Tallahassee area of tropical storm force gusts and rain. However, there remains a great amount of uncertainty. TCC officials continue to closely monitor the situation. The College remains open and operational at this time.

While the forecast for Tallahassee is improving, other areas of the state will be severely impacted. For those who are considering plans to travel outside of the Tallahassee area, we encourage you to monitor the latest weather information from the National Weather Service or other official weather sources. Faculty will work with students who have extenuating circumstances on an individual basis.

We will update our faculty, staff, and students on any changes to College operations as soon as decisions are made.
