The entire Tallahassee Community College family was saddened this past month to hear of the passing of Dr. Hinson, our third president, who served this college with distinction from 1983 to 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Hinson is remembered as a loving husband, father, great-grandfather, and friend; an accomplished professional educator; and a great leader who served his country and his community with integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A decorated World War II veteran, Dr. Hinson received the Bronze Star Medal for Bravery for shooting down a German fighter plane attacking a 24-vehicle convoy that was returning to the front from R&R. He also was in the lead tank that liberated the Dachau concentration camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Hinson went on to become an elementary school teacher, a high school principle, a superintendent of the largest school system in Georgia, chancellor of the Virginia Community College System, and finally president of Tallahassee Community College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his tenure at TCC, the College gained significant legislative support and enrollment more than doubled. He expanded the Foundation, re-established an athletic program, and significantly increased the campus footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In action by the District Board of Trustees, the TCC Administration Building was renamed the James H. Hinson, Jr., Administration Building in recognition of his tremendous 12 years of service to the College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. James H. Hinson, Jr. passed away on January 25, 2022 at the age of 96. His legacy is one of a life well lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
